Outdoor Room Retreat

The challenge..

This Gretna property had plenty of space for outdoor entertaining, as well as an existing swimming pool, fenced yard and deck with a pergola. The client wanted to update the landscape in time for a graduation party, and add amenities that his family could enjoy in the short term, while adding appeal and value to the property for the future.

The first step in updating the look of the yard involved clearing several volunteer trees that had overgrown much of the yard. A large paver patio was then installed and some of the existing retaining wall was removed and replaced with natural stone. Additional features include a dry stacked natural stone firepit, seating wall, and pondless waterfall. The planting beds were renovated, consolidating the existing grass areas into one large area of turf for children to play in. A few select trees were retained and the remaining planting areas were updated with a variety of shrubs, perennials and a handful of compact trees to bring the composition together. The plant selections for the design provided progressive seasonal color to maximize the year-around enjoyment of the property. The photos show the plantings after only a few months of growth, a testimony to the success of the partnership between the installation crew and the client in bringing the landscape to fruition.
